I am a Colorado native and Stapleton resident and am excited to be an assistant principal at Northfield High School. I have been fortunate to work at two fantastic schools during my teaching career. In 2010, I started teaching 6th grade language arts Northglenn Middle School in the Adams 12 District. Two years later, I made the move to teaching English Language Learners in ESL (English as a Second Language) and started pursuing a master’s degree at CU Denver. I spent five years at Northglenn having the opportunity to serve on the leadership team for two years as the ESL department chair. In my last year at Northglenn, our students achieved the highest MGP on the ACCESS assessment for English Language Learners (ELL’s) in the school’s history.
In 2015, I had the opportunity to teach at Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences in DPS. While there, I started collaborating with WiDA (the research institute that creates the ACCESS assessment) on the new WiDA Pathways. From that work and intentional instructional planning, Hill became one of the top middle schools in DPS for growth on the ACCESS assessment from 2016-2018 (still waiting on calculations for 2019). In 2016, I became Senior Team Lead and learned from top tier school leaders. To me, there is nothing more exciting than collaborating with colleagues for the betterment and growth of ALL students. With the work that the leadership team and teachers did, we were able to make Hill an overall top performing middle school.
I am excited to be part of the Nighthawk Nation and help Northfield be the BEST high school in DPS for our students and our community.
