Beginning next year, Northfield will no longer have district transportation. It is district policy in DPS to help new schools with transportation services and then transition to RTD.
All students who live more than 3.5 miles from Northfield and who live in the Far Northeast school boundary will receive an RTD pass for the next school year. RTD bus route maps are available in the main office. Please read the letter from DPS Transportation Services below for more information.
Dear Northfield High School Families:
DPS Transportation Services strives to ensure Every Child Succeeds by providing high-quality services to DPS students and schools each school year. In June 2014, the Board of Education approved the boundary system for the Northfield High School that establishes how enrollment for students living in the geographic area will access school.
As we begin preparations for the 2017-18 school year, Transportation Services would like to update all families attending Northfield High School on transportation changes. RTD now has bus routes available for students to utilize to travel to and from Northfield High School.
Students will receive RTD passes based on the following criteria:
• All high school students who live in the Northfield High School boundary and attend Northfield High School, and live more than 3.5 miles from the school will be provided an RTD pass.
• Students who live in the Far Northeast Enrollment Zone where there is limited seat availability and attend Northfield High School, will also be provided with RTD passes.
• Students with disabilities, where transportation is a related service, will receive transportation via yellow school bus. Bus route information will be provided to parents via mail and through the Parent Portal in late July.
To maintain eligibility for RTD passes, students must keep a 90% or better attendance record throughout the school year.
Exception Form Process
Students not eligible for transportation may apply for a transportation exception, and are approved based on current bus stop and space availability. Please visit the DPS Transportation website at http://transportation.dpsk12.org/information-for-families-and-students/ for details.
Details on specific bus stop locations and route information are made available to parents of all transportation-eligible students in July 2017 through New School Year letters sent home, your student(s)’ school office, as well as on the DPS Parent Portal. Parents, please make sure your information is up-to-date with your school before the end of the school year to ensure you receive this information in advance of next school year. Passes will be given to your school’s front office by Transportation Services prior to the start of the school year. Please check with your school’s front office prior to the start of school for more information on pass pick-up.
