Integrated within Northfield’s IB for All framework, our Biomedical Sciences CTE Pathway prepares students for future careers in medicine, healthcare, and research by challenging them to solve real-world problems. Through project-based learning, case studies, and hands-on laboratory protocols, students develop creative problem-solving skills while practicing the exact techniques used by biomedical professionals in the field.
As part of this on-campus pathway, students explore a wide range of healthcare professions—from emergency response and clinical medicine to forensic science—while working toward industry-recognized credentials and real-world work-based learning opportunities.
Learning is further enriched through our on-campus partnership with HOSA (Future Health Professionals), where students build leadership skills, network with medical professionals, and compete in health-related skill events.

On-Campus CTE Pathway Courses
- Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS)
Foundational course exploring human physiology, medicine, and research techniques through real-world medical case studies and crime scene investigation.
- Human Body Systems (HBS)
Intermediate study of human anatomy and physiology, examining how body systems interact to maintain health through identity, communication, and movement.
- Medical Interventions (MI)
Advanced course investigating how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease—covering pharmacology, surgery, immunology, and medical technology.
Industry Certifications & Career Opportunities
- EKG Technician Certification
Validates clinical skills in monitoring and recording heart rhythms, preparing students for entry-level roles in cardiology and patient care settings.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Apprenticeship
Combines classroom instruction with hands-on patient care training, offering a direct pathway toward state certification and clinical healthcare work.
