I am incredibly proud that Northfield earned a Green rating on the Colorado School Performance Framework (SPF). Combined with our recent recognition as the #1 high school in Colorado, it is another affirmation of the extraordinary things happening within our community.
But neither a ranking nor an SPF rating can fully tell the Nighthawk story.
We are so much more than a score.
We are a community that believes students should be challenged and supported.
We are educators and staff who continually study and strengthen our practice.
We are students who wrestle with difficult ideas, communicate our thinking, ask questions, make mistakes, and try again.
We are families who trust us with their children and partners who invest in our community.
A performance framework cannot measure the moments that change how a student sees themselves, their potential, or their future. It cannot measure belonging, relationships, joy, courage, or the staff member who refuses to give up on a student.
But those moments matter because, collectively, they are what produce the outcomes we are celebrating today.
And even as we celebrate Green, our work continues. Being Green and being ranked #1 are affirmations of our work, but they are not the finish line.
Our goal has never been simply to earn a color on a report or a number in a ranking. Our goal is for every student who walks through our doors to experience academic excellence, educational equity, and a true sense of belonging.
That is why this Green rating is worth celebrating. Not simply because of what it says about our school, but because of what it represents: the hard work, growth, commitment, and care of the people who make Northfield what it is.

I have the honor and privilege of serving as the Northfield High School Activities Director, and one of my favorite events every year is, without a doubt, our Student Life Fair. Every fall, leaders from all of the student-led clubs, Affinity Groups, and Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) gather on the quad at lunch to share information about their group and recruit students to join. This event is completely student-driven, and exemplifies exactly how Northfield provides a space for everyone of all backgrounds, interests, and experience.
Northfield features over 70 student-led organizations, but in the off-chance that we don’t have something that one of our Nighthawks is passionate about, they are welcome to apply to start their own club! In the first ten days of school alone, we have received applications to launch our very own Improv Club, Architecture Club, Helping Hand Club, and Denver Indigenous Outreach Club, and I am looking forward to seeing those clubs’ amazing contributions to the Nighthawk experience.
I am so proud of how our students show up every day in new ways, creating opportunities for their peers to find a sense of belonging through Student Activities. At Northfield, fostering community is one of our highest priorities, and I am grateful that I get to witness Northfield magic every day.

The University of Denver and Campus Prep are offering a 7-week, 27-hour SAT prep course starting this October for Northfield students.
Course Details
Spots are limited and fill quickly.
Each fall and spring, the Gifted and Talented Department offers cognitive testing for students in grades ECE through 12 to support data collection toward gifted identification or eligibility for gifted magnet sites. All first- and fifth-graders are tested automatically through universal screening, so no sign-up is needed for students in those specific grades. Families of all other students can register online by Oct. 2 to ensure testing is completed prior to Round 1 of SchoolChoice.
