National Native American Heritage Month begins today. Northfield’s focus for this month is to begin building a student-led Native American club that offers students opportunities throughout the year to engage with community partners and learn more about Native history and culture. Northfield’s DPS Department of Technology Services Partner, Mr. Will Bowen, and Northfield Class of 2024 Senior, Leo Calabrese, will lead the club. The first club-sponsored activity is a field trip to Metropolitan State University for their “Lunch & Learn: Indigenous Origins of Lacrosse,” on Monday, Nov. 6, 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Participating students will hear from Clark TallBull, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and founder of the Native Lacrosse Youth Program, about the history of Lacrosse and its Native roots. Students have the opportunity to shootaround with MSU Denver’s lacrosse team before heading back to Northfield for club planning. If your student is interested in being a part of this club and attending this field trip, let club organizers know! Interested students will receive more information.
