A Note from the Nest (Sept. 6 edition)

Posted September 10, 2024

Hello Nighthawks,

It is an incredible privilege to be a new member of the Nighthawk team! I am excited to join Northfield this year as an assistant principal and activities director. I am supporting 9th grade, student activities, graduation and all things Class of 2025. I am blown away by the community involvement and school spirit here at Northfield. I can’t wait to see more of it this year with Nighthawk Nation athletics, our spirit program, student council, and one of the 60+ student clubs and organizations Northfield offers!

I grew up in Virginia Beach, Va., and earned a degree in business from Virginia Tech (go Hokies!). Following my time in Blacksburg, Va., I moved to Denver to begin teaching English, and started my career at West High School where I met my husband, Fred, in 2009. I earned my Masters Degree in 2011, in Curriculum and Instruction; and my Doctoral Degree in 2019, in Leadership for Educational Equity. I have worked in Title I schools in the Denver Metro Area for 15 years, serving as a teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal, prior to joining Northfield. I care deeply about creating systems to support all students in their educational experience, and value connections and prioritization of equitable educational practice. I have two kids, Oscar and Rose, and two dogs, Dobby and Luna. When I am not at
work, I enjoy traveling, reading, and thrifting.

This month, there are so many fun events to celebrate and to build community at Northfield! We will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in a number of ways, and will show off that Nighthawk pride with another spirit week to launch Homecoming. Homecoming Week will include a pep rally, powderpuff football game, the HoCo dance, and more! Look for these details next week.
