Hello Nighthawks,
November is Native American Heritage Month. To me, Native Culture is an embodiment of our resilience and strength. My culture continues to face immense challenges due to colonization, displacement, and cultural suppression. Native Culture is rich and diverse in traditions, beliefs, and practices developed over generations.
Our culture offers a perspective that values community over individualism, which is one of my favorite aspects, as I am surrounded by a large community that I know will support me in all I do. Native Culture is deeply intertwined with the land and community, and a has profound sense of interconnection between all living things, humans, animals, plants, and Mother Earth herself.
The diversity among tribes means there isn’t one singular Native Culture as each has its unique customs, languages, and world views. Regardless, we share respect for the environment and a balance between life and harmony.
