Although Northfield is a young school, it has proven itself among the best—not only in its commitment to academic excellence, but also in its promise to create lasting traditions. As a junior at Northfield, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing how our school has evolved and strengthened its traditions over the last three years.
This evolution is due in large part to the amazing work our Student Council does every day. From freshman year until now, my involvement in Student Council has been incredibly impactful in helping to foster and build spirit in such a new school. Last year, it became a collective goal of the Student Council to ensure that, as student leaders, every event we plan, organize, and execute is better than the last. A big part of realizing this goal has been ensuring that students and staff alike feel included in everything we do.
This year’s Unity Run—the best one yet, if you ask me—has been the pinnacle of what we should strive for in our future school events: fun, engaging, spirited, and impactful.
My very first school assembly as a ninth grader opened my eyes to the importance of having an active and welcoming school environment. The excitement in the air, the unity echoed throughout the gym, and the sheer number of staff and students present planted a seed of determination in my mind. From that day on, I made it a personal objective to guarantee that every student experiences an atmosphere like that at every event.
Carrying that sentiment forward, I can’t wait to see what our school accomplishes in the coming year. I know it will be one for the books!

Tuesday, October 1, is Colorado’s official school count day, which plays a critical role in securing state resources for Northfield for the entire school year. We ask that all students make every effort to be in class on this day.
However, if your student is sick or misses school on October 1, state policy allows us to measure the student’s broader attendance window surrounding October 1 to ensure every enrolled student is counted.

As construction continues on Northfield’s campus for our new performance venue and community health clinic, we want to share an update on the funding behind these major investments. Both projects—along with district-wide facility upgrades—are made possible through voter-approved Denver Public Schools bond funds.

Dear Team DPS,
The 2024 Bond Oversight Committee is proud to release the 2025-26 Denver Public Schools Annual Bond Report. Denver voters said “yes” to 4A, approving a $975 million investment in our public schools. Since then, DPS has been hard at work fulfilling the needs of 197 buildings across the district, including all schools. Thanks to the voters’ investment in DPS, students have safer, healthier and more engaging learning environments that will create new opportunities for their present and future.
The annual report outlines the projects that have been completed, their impact and what projects are coming up next. During the 2025-26 school year, $394 million was spent and committed, funding:
Responsible stewardship is how a public promise becomes a lasting student benefit. We have been able to build more modernized systems and more reliable facilities using electrification and efficiency measures thanks to Denver voters. We have actively engaged Minority Women Business Enterprises (MWBE) and local businesses in the projects while maintaining transparent reporting and public oversight.

All Class of 2030 students jumped into the *ECMC FAB Life Financial Literacy Simulation, where each student was handed a complete “age-28 persona”—including a career, a starting salary, a marital status, and kids!
From balancing a $38,660 salary as a single-parent Dental Assistant to navigating single-parent life with two kids as a $98,300 Radiation Therapist or managing student loans on a $123,000 Lawyer income, students had to make tough real-world calls. They budgeted for everything from rent and utilities to childcare, student loans, groceries, and entertainment—all without going broke.
Ninth graders will build on these lessons during Advisement with an upcoming Career Exploration Activity and their required 9th-grade Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) milestones.

Biology students put chemistry to the test this week using a surprisingly simple tool: raw potato juice. By dripping it into hydrogen peroxide, they triggered a rapid, fizzing reaction powered by catalase—an essential enzyme that breaks down harmful hydrogen peroxide into harmless water and oxygen gas.
It’s easy to dismiss a high school lab as just counting bubbles, but beneath the foam, students were watching a cell defend itself in real time. This same process happens inside human cells every day, where enzymes act as biological shields against toxic buildup. Through this hands-on investigation, students saw firsthand how life protects itself and keeps our bodies functioning safely, one reaction at a time.
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, HOSA hosted a voluntary campus blood drive in partnership with Vitalant. Transforming one of our conference spaces into a multi-station donation center, the drive saw a steady stream of students rolling up their sleeves rolling up their sleeves to give back.
Student leaders from Northfield’s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) chapter organized and managed the event.
Donating blood is one of the most direct ways to support local emergency medical needs, as a single donation can help save up to three lives. Participating students—who met age, height, and weight requirements—demonstrated civic spirit by taking time out of their school day to contribute.
This effort highlights the commitment of our HOSA students to health careers and service, as well as the generosity of the Northfield student body in helping meet a critical community need.
Tonight, our undefeated (4-0) Northfield Nighthawks football team squares off against the (4-0) Grandview Wolves in a massive battle for local dominance. Not only are two undefeated powerhouses clashing, but this matchup won the featured poll on the official Sunday Night Football Instagram page!
This special national spotlight is happening because the Denver Broncos are hosting Sunday Night Football this weekend. Because our game won the vote, local film crews will be tracking the plays and players of both teams at Legacy Stadium tonight. The highlights are scheduled to air on NBC which in Colorado is Channel 9 KUSA this Sunday night (September 27) during the NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast at 6:16 p.m. (or the Football Night in America pregame show starting at 5:00 PM MDT).
If you’re going to the game tonight, show up loud, wear your school colors, and let’s make sure it’s our fans highlighted on national television this weekend!
Homecoming week is officially here! From daily spirit dress-up days to the big game and Saturday’s dance, we are ready for a high-energy week at Northfield.
Attendance Requirement & Student Appeal Form: As a reminder, students must maintain a 90% attendance rate to attend the dance. If a student is currently below the threshold, they have the opportunity to submit a formal appeal.

For the first time in school history, the Nighthawks captured the league title after posting the lowest cumulative stroke count across all DPS City League Tournaments this fall. Northfield proved its depth on the course by securing 5 of the 10 spots on the All-City Team.
