Have a question about Course Selection? Complete this form and a Northfield High School counselor will follow-up with an answer!
To help incoming students make a smooth transition from middle school to high school, Northfield High School will host a Ninth Grade Academy (NGA) in partnership with other Denver Public Schools high schools.
📅 Dates: Monday, August 10 – Thursday, August 13
⏰Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
📍Location: Northfield High School
This four-day program is fun, engaging, and informative, designed to support students as they begin their high school journey. All incoming ninth grade students are strongly encouraged to attend.
Q1. Why should my student attend NGA?
A1. Studies show students who participate improve their academic performance, have a stronger attachment to their high school and their peer groups, and are more likely to graduate from high school. Along with this, students will complete their required in-person enrollment and earn 2.5 elective credits for completing NGA.
Q2. Can you confirm that I registered my student(s) for NGA?
A2: You can view the automatically updating list of registered NGA students at any time.
Q3. What if my student(s) can’t attend all of NGA?
A3: Due to the short nature of NGA, it is important that students attend all four days to not only prepare them for high school but also to receive the 2.5 elective credit. If your student can only attend a portion of NGA, please reach out to the NGA Site Coordinator, Treyce Glidden, at treyce_glidden@dpsk12.net to discuss your situation.
Q4. What are expectations for students during NGA?
A4: Student expectations are the same expectations we have during the school year. Students are expected to be on time, respect classroom norms, and engage in the content and activities during the week. Phones, airpods, and other headphones are not to be used during the day and should remain in their backpack. Our Engagement Team and administration will be present during NGA and will follow our discipline decision matrix outlined in our community handbook posted on our Northfield website.
Q5. What should students wear and bring to NGA each day?
A5: Students should come prepared to be active during the day as we will be outside and in the gym fairly often. Please dress accordingly. As for materials, students should come with a water bottle, writing utensil, and their Chromebook which they will receive either the first or second day of NGA. Some snacks will be provided, but students are welcome to bring additional snacks if needed.
Q6. Does my student need to be registered to attend NGA?
A6: Yes, students must be fully registered at Northfield High School prior to participating in Ninth Grade Academy. You can find all the information regarding registration at the top of this page.
Q7. What if my student is new to Northfield but will not be a freshman next year?
A7: While we are excited that your student will be joining us, Ninth Grade Academy is specific to our incoming freshmen students.
Q8. Will students who are registered for NGA receive any further communication or information prior to NGA?
A8: Yes! Students who are registered for NGA will receive an email from the NGA Site Leader, Treyce Glidden, a week prior to Ninth Grade Academy. This email will have more communication about transportation, the week’s schedule, and other important announcements.
Q9. Who do I contact if I have a question that was not yet answered?
You may reach out to Treyce Glidden, our NGA Site Coordinator, at treyce_glidden@dpsk12.net. Over the summer break, she will be answering emails less frequently.
