Meet Coach RJ Goerner

The 2024-25 School Year marks Northfield High School Coach RJ Goerner’s second season leading the Nighthawk Women’s Gymnastics team. Coach Goerner is a special education paraeducator at Northfield. She is Colorado native raised in Denver and is a graduate of East High School, where she competed as a gymnast on the varsity team. Following high school, she continued on to achieve a diploma in welding and fabrication and competed for USA Gymnastics (USAG). Coach Goerner later became a gymnastics coach and has more than 10 years of experience coaching athletes within the USAG program.

Her love of gymnastics started at a young age and continued through 12 years of attendance and eight years of competition at the compulsory and optional level. Gymnastics is still a major part of her life today, with her daughter training in the same gym she grew up in. Coach Goerner has worked with gymnasts of all ages, from assisting crawling babies in basic motor function skills to training with young adult athletes during pre-, post-, and competition season. She strives to create a team environment that highlights each individual athlete’s skill set and personality.

Coach Goerner’s coaching philosophy: An athlete’s personal success, mentally and physically,  is dependent on what they believe they are capable of achieving. She believes it is teamwork, between the athlete, the team, and the coach, that creates an environment built for athletes to excel in physical and personal growth.
