Multilingual Learners

The landscape of Northfield High School is deeply enriched by the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of our students. Our Multilingual Education (MLE) program serves all Language Learners, including those with home languages such as Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Dutch, and Vietnamese. Many of our students graduate with national recognition for their pursuit of college-level biliteracy in multiple languages.

Our Mission

In alignment with Denver Public Schools (DPS), the mission of Northfield’s Multilingual Learners (MLL) program is to ensure every Language Learner succeeds by providing opportunities to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to become contributing citizens in our diverse society.

Supporting Our Students

-Students in the MLE program take the ACCESS test, which measures English language proficiency. Results help determine the level of English support a student may need.

-Based on ACCESS results, students may be placed in additional language support classes, allowing teachers to tailor instruction and provide targeted assistance.

-Many students in the MLE program participate in co-taught English classes, receiving extra support alongside general education instruction.

Family Engagement

Our MLE team also holds regular Parental Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings, open to all families of MLL students, providing opportunities for increased communication between school and home.
