News from the Nest

Being part of the cast and crew at Northfield is honestly like joining a family. I was so nervous at my first audition, surrounded by people who had done a million shows before me, but now rehearsals are my favorite part of the day. Some of the funniest moments happen when we have to improvise—like our student director jumping in for a missing cast member—and it just reminds you that theater is supposed to be fun too.

Putting a show together takes a ton of teamwork. From acting out every crazy twist in the story to the crew building the sets and running the lights, everyone’s part matters. Ms. B’s set designs are incredible, and the whole crew works like a well-oiled machine. It’s amazing what happens when creativity, courage, and community come together.

Theater also teaches you a lot about empathy. Playing a character lets you step into someone else’s shoes, see their world, and feel their struggles. Every show is a chance for the audience to feel something real, and it’s so cool knowing that our hard work and even our “happy accidents” help make that happen.

Seriously, you cannot miss this! Come see A-Haunting We Will Go on November 6, 7, or 8 and watch us bring the story—and all the laughs—to life. Tickets are on sale now—grab yours and join us for a fun night at the theater!

Exciting Changes Coming to Campus!

Big news, Northfield families! Last year, voters approved a bond to bring a Performing Arts Center and a Denver Health Clinic to our campus—and the planning has officially begun!

Our Design Advisory Group (DAG) just met to start shaping this exciting project. Here’s what’s in the works:

Construction is tentatively set for Fall 2026, with completion expected Fall 2027–Winter 2028.

We’ll keep you updated as plans take shape—this is an exciting step for our students, artists, and whole Northfield community!

Health Kids Colorado Survey

The Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) will be held at Northfield on Nov. 17.  The survey questions will take one class period to complete. Responses to the survey are anonymous and serve to inform the state on programs and policies that help youth thrive.

Students are not required to take the survey.

If you wish to give your child permission to participate, no action is needed at this time.

To opt your student out, please complete this google form or ask your student to pick-up a hard copy from the front desk and then return the signed copy to them within the next two weeks if you do NOT want your child to participate.

Questions? Please refer to the Survey FAQs for more information.

Collaborative School Committee Update

At the October 16 CSC meeting, co-chairs Joy French and Nicole Jones and student co-secretaries Finn and Carmen reviewed Northfield’s class sizes, performance data, celebrating strong graduation rates, credit completion, and a 74% college enrollment rate. The committee also discussed ways to expand opportunities and support all students—especially Black, Hispanic, MLL, and SPED learners—and reviewed the school’s upcoming innovation renewal plan.

Northfield High School is proud to be an innovation school, which gives us the flexibility to deliver on our IB for All commitment and align our programs with the needs of our students. This year, we’re entering the innovation renewal process, where staff, families, and the CSC will review, revise, and recommit to the core elements of our plan—including academics, student experience, structures, and supports. The process runs through early 2025, with staff and CSC voting on the updated plan in May. Key focus areas include curriculum and professional learning waivers, CTE pathways, calendar planning, and support structures that make Northfield unique.

CSC meetings are open to the community! The next meeting is scheduled for November 19 from 5:30–7:30 PM, with an informational review and prep period from 5–5:30 PM. Community members are welcome to join, observe, and learn more about school initiatives.

See the slides or learn more here: CSC Webpage.

Students Can Earn the Seal of Biliteracy!

Does your 11th or 12th grader speak and write proficiently in another language? Encourage them to apply for the Seal of Biliteracy—a recognition of bilingual skills that colleges and employers value! This is especially great for Redesignated and Exited Multilingual Learners.

📌 Learn more and see requirements here: Seal of Biliteracy Website
