News from the Nest

Hello, my name is Yuridia Alaniz, a proud class of 2026 senior. The annual Senior 14er has been something I have been looking forward to because this experience has a deeper meaning besides just reaching the summit of Mount Bierstadt.  For me, summiting was being able to spend time with my friends, my fellow classmates, and I had a  goal to reach the summit to enjoy the incredible views from our lovely Colorado mountains.

As I kept climbing higher, the trail grew rockier and steeper to climb. It reminded me of  the challenges we face, as we get older and prepare to summit the mountain of senior year. Overcoming academic stress, pressures, applying to colleges, and in general wondering what the future has planned for us. But, when I finally reached the top of the summit, I realized how these overwhelming experiences are just momentary. Reaching the summit made me feel proud of myself-  it was a challenging journey, but being at the top with the breeze and my classmates made it all worth it.

Through my climb, the most significant thing was the unexpected conversations I had with classmates I rarely talk to. We motivated each other, climbed in groups, and pushed through the struggles together, taking breaks along the way. Seniors who made it up to the summit before us, would motivate us and keep our spirits up when they were coming down. The climb was rooted in teamwork, even if it wasn’t physically helping each other. It was mentally motivating each other to reach our final goal, the summit. We came together as seniors, encouraging one another to reach the summit.

Taking part in the Senior 14er was a moment that I will never forget, as being able to remember that we are capable of more than we think. Even for those who did not reach the summit, the rocky path reminds us that it’s difficult to reach our goals, but it’s important that we try. The Class of 2026 14er was amazing, and I hope the Class of 2027 seniors find just as much meaning and fun in their climb as I did.

Sincerely,

Yuridia Alaniz
Class of 2026

Key Dates & Events

Weekly Highlights

PSAT/NMSQT – Oct. 16 & 17

Campus Schedule:

Lunch is available for students following the test. 11:30 – 12:10 p.m. for students not receiving extended time and 12:45 – 1:30 p.m. for students with extended time.

After P/SAT testing next Thursday and Friday, our teachers will be providing academic support to students by invite. Because testing takes place in various rooms across two buildings and finishes at different times, it isn’t possible to follow a regular class schedule immediately after testing. To make this time more flexible and student-centered, teachers can invite students who may benefit from extra support, for example, help catching up on assignments, finishing a lab, or completing a make-up test.
Support time will start at 1:30pm, if students are not leaving campus before that time they can go to Building 1 for lunch and then Building 3.
