Weekly Newsletter – 8/15/2025

Welcome

We’re excited to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year! Whether you’re returning to the Nest or joining us for the first time, we’re honored to have you in our community.

At Northfield, our vision is setting the stage for educational equity and academic excellence. We’re committed to giving every student access to a high-quality, inclusive education—built on strong relationships, high expectations, and the belief that every learner belongs.

This year, we continue to embrace the values that make Northfield a vibrant place to learn:

We can’t wait to see our students’ energy fill the hallways again. Thank you for trusting and partnering with us so every Nighthawk feels a deep sense of belonging, is challenged to grow, and is empowered to soar—ready to lead with purpose and make a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.

We’re grateful to have you as part of the Northfield family and can’t wait to see all that our students will accomplish this year.

With appreciation,
Jessica Rodriguez Bracey
Principal

📣This Week’s Highlights

Student Drop-Off & Pick Up

To help keep traffic flowing and students safe, please review the Transportation Page on our website. You’ll find maps and details for both on-campus and off-campus drop-off and pick-up locations.

Per our Community Handbook, students cannot be released after 3:00 p.m. except for athletics, emergencies, or prior approved arrangements.

Please extend grace to our community during the first two weeks of drop-off and pick-up, as routines are still settling and traffic may be slower than usual.

🅿️Parking Info

Spaces are Limited
As a reminder, we share our campus with DSST Conservatory Green, so parking is limited. We appreciate everyone doing their part to make the most of the space we have. Please review the guidelines below to help keep parking safe, organized, and neighbor-friendly.

Vehicle Registration (required for all)
All students and staff who drive must register their vehicle—even if parking in the neighborhood. Click here to register your student’s vehicle. It helps us keep you safe, contact you in an emergency, prevent tickets/towing, and maintain good relationships with our neighbors.

Locations
1. South Lot (54th Ave): Staff/teacher parking only — no student parking.
2. North Lot (56th Ave): West side near B1/B3 (30 spaces): Reserved for staff — please do not park here. Remaining spaces: Seniors/Juniors only, first-come, first-served. Senior Parking Pass required.
3. Northeast Lot (near tennis courts): Junior/Senior parking only. Student parking decal required.

Need a Decal?
Click here to complete the student vehicle registration form.

Please extend grace to our community during the first two weeks of drop-off and pick-up, as routines are still settling and traffic may be slower than usual.

🪪School IDs

Per district policy, All DPS high school students must wear their ID badges during school hours and have them for school business, such as checking out library books or purchasing event tickets. IDs were given out at enrollment; if you didn’t receive one, visit the main office in B5 for a temporary ID.

✏️Supplies

Missed the school supplies list? No worries — here it is! We know some items may be out of stock, so you’ll have time this week to grab what you need.

If you’re looking for another way to support our school community, we’re accepting donations of:
🧽 Disinfectant wipes (any brand)
🧻 Boxes of tissues
🎓 Northfield caps & gowns
☕ Coffee pods for staff — because fueled teachers = happy students!

Please drop off all donations at the main office. Thank you for supporting our students and staff!

📵 No Cell Phones During Instructional Time

A new Colorado state law now limits student cell phone use during the school day — something we began implementing at Northfield three years ago. Our consistent approach has helped create a better learning environment, and this year, we’re continuing to hold that line school-wide.

Policy Reminder:
Students are not permitted to use cell phones or electronic devices in the classroom at any time for any reason (unless specifically stated in an IEP or 504 plan). This includes the use of AirPods, other headphones, or similar electronic devices. Each teacher will have a clearly communicated system for managing cell phones to ensure they are put away and do not distract from learning.

Why this matters:

For more details on our cell phone policy, please review our Community Handbook.

New Way to Connect: Thrillshare Rooms

We’re excited to introduce Thrillshare Rooms, our new way for families and staff to stay connected! Right now, our teachers and staff are still learning the platform, so thanks for your patience as we get it rolling. We’ll share more tips and updates soon—can’t wait for you to see it in action!

Nighthawks Go Global: Hands-On Learning in Belize

This summer, 16 students set out on an unforgettable STEM adventure in Belize—trekking from mountain streams to vibrant coral reefs. They planted trees to fight erosion, learned climate-smart farming from local growers, and rolled up their sleeves for a beach cleanup to witness the ocean’s challenges up close.

Along the way, they immersed themselves in Belizean culture, made lasting memories, and discovered how science connects people and the planet.

Nighthawks Shine at HOSA International Conference

Advisors Angela Cannava and Abby Cox joined rising seniors Kalani Junta, Natalie Clark, and Hayden Zeps at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville this June. The students competed in Veterinary Science, Family Medicine Physician, and Research Poster events—while also attending symposiums, donating blood, and networking with future healthcare leaders from across the country.
