I am a Colorado native and Central Park Neighborhood resident. I have been fortunate to work at two fantastic schools prior to Northfield. In 2010, I started teaching 6th grade language arts at Northglenn Middle School in the Adams 12 District. Two years later, I made the move to teaching English Language Learners in ESL (English as a Second Language) and started pursuing a master’s degree at CU Denver. I spent five years at Northglenn having the opportunity to serve on the leadership team for two years as the ESL department chair. In my last year at Northglenn, our students achieved the highest Median Growth Percentile on the ACCESS assessment for English Language Learners (ELL’s) in the school’s history.
In 2015, I had the opportunity to move to Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences in DPS. While there, I started collaborating with WiDA (the research institute that creates the ACCESS assessment) on the new WiDA Pathways. From that work and intentional instructional planning, Hill became one of the top middle schools in DPS for growth on the ACCESS assessment from 2016-2018. During my time at Hill, I started my leadership journey moving into the Senior Team Lead role being half-time in the classroom and half-time as a teacher leader.
I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue to lead at Northfield High School. What we have done as a community during the 19-20 and 20-21 school years is nothing short of remarkable. Our students, teachers, and staff have collaborated and worked in ways that we never imagined. I believe we are truly building adaptable 21st century learners and citizens and living up to the Northfield Mission to be engaged citizens of the world.
I am excited to continue to be part of the Nighthawk Nation and build Northfield’s legacy, brick-by-brick.
