Elian Oliva wins Denver Post's Golden Helmet Award

Northfield High School senior Elian Oliva has been named the 2025 Gold Helmet Award winner, a prestigious honor created and presented annually by The Denver Post since 1951 to recognize Colorado’s top senior football player, scholar, and citizen. Oliva is the first Denver Public Schools student to win the award since 1999 and the first in Northfield’s history.

A standout linebacker, Oliva has combined physicality, speed, and football intelligence to make a significant impact on the field. This past season, he recorded 114 tackles—including 14 for loss—six sacks, and two interceptions. Coaches say his dedication and preparation elevate the entire program, making him a game-changer on every play.

Off the field, Oliva’s accomplishments are equally impressive. He maintains a 5.02 GPA while taking a rigorous schedule of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. He co-founded Northfield’s UNICEF chapter, tutored peers in math, coached youth flag football, and spent four summers as a camp counselor. Teachers and teammates praise his leadership, curiosity, and ability to inspire those around him.

Oliva’s combination of athletic, academic, and community achievements earned him the Gold Helmet Award, selected by a committee of past winners, The Denver Post staff, and Colorado media members.
