I am a true Colorado native. I was born in Monte Vista in southern Colorado, near the New Mexico border. However, I was raised in Fresno California’s east side barrio. At age 16, I returned to Colorado to live with an auntie, who changed the trajectory of my life. I attended Saint Mary’s High School and Smoky Hill High School. Then I attended an array of colleges until I found the right fit at the University of Colorado Denver. Once I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Writing, I seized an opportunity to teach conversational English in Okayama, Japan for two years. Full of optimism, I returned to UCD to earn a Master’s Credential in Curriculum and Instruction. At Manual High School I completed my teaching internship. This year marks 25 years with DPS. I feel blessed to be a teacher against all the odds!
