Daily Life & Expectations

Attendance

Regular attendance has a direct correlation to high levels of student learning and students are encouraged to attend every class on time and every day of the school year. More information is available on our ‘Attendance’ page.
To excuse an absence:
-Write and deliver a note, within 24 hours of the absence, to the Main Office.
-Report an absence through the DPS Parent/Student Portal using Infinite Campus. (Instructions)
-Leave a message on the Northfield Attendance Line 720-423-8001, by 7:45 a.m. for each day the student is absent.

Cell Phone & Electronic Devices Policy

No phone use in classrooms at any time—including AirPods and headphones.
-Phones may need to be stored in a wall holder or backpack during class.
-Devices may be used before/after school, during lunch, and passing periods but students may not be late or miss class due to phone use.
-If a staff member asks a student to put a device away, they must comply. Refusal = phone confiscation; repeat offenses follow the DPS discipline ladder.
Urgent family messages should go through the main office.

Student Pickup Prior to End of School Day

The latest a student can be released from class is 3:00 p.m. There will be no early dismissals at the end of the school day unless it is for athletic reasons, an emergency, or an appointment that a parent/guardian communicates to the school. If a pattern of early dismissals is identified, a member of the school’s culture team will contact the family to discuss the matter.

Transportation, Parking and Drop Off/Pick Up

Student Drop Off/Pick Up
During the first few weeks of school, traffic on and around campus, as well as parking, can be challenging. Safety should be everyone’s first priority. Families who drive are encouraged to allow extra time for drop-off and pick-up, and to consider dropping off/picking up students at the neighborhood drop off/pick up locations indicated on the map on our website and in the handbook.

Carpool and RTD (free w/student ID)
For those families looking for a carpool, visit the Way to Go Schoolpool. RTD offers free transportation to students aged 19 and under with a current student ID through their Zero Fare For Youth program. Use the RTD Trip Planner to find bus transportation to Northfield.

Parking Guidelines
All students must register their car with Northfield High School, even if they park on neighborhood streets. Please complete car registration immediately. Students must obey all street signs, as well as refrain from blocking alleys, driveways or fire hydrants; these parking violations are strongly enforced by the Denver Police Department. Students are not allowed to park in the Shops at Beeler parking lot. Parking violations on and off campus may result in towing of a vehicle.

Students should have their Chromebooks fully charged and with them each day. Use of any other device beyond a DPS-issued Chromebook is at the discretion of individual classroom teachers. Students are responsible for any information that is accessed on the Internet and/or stored on their Chromebook.

New Districtwide Communications Platform

DPS is switching to a single two-way communication tool called Thrillshare Rooms, which families will access through a new DPS app. The district expects to officially launch Rooms and the app during the week of August 11.

The goal is to create a one-stop shop for all school communication across the district—especially helpful for families with students at multiple DPS schools. Rooms will replace previous tools like Reachwell, ClassDojo, School Deets, and others.

We’re working closely with DPS to learn the new system and ensure a smooth rollout. Like many schools, our staff and teachers will need time to get familiar with Rooms and integrate it into their daily communication. We’ll continue to share updates with you and provide support as we all transition to this new tool together.

Family Engagement

Collaborative School Committee (CSC)

Northfield’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is a vital part of our school community. The CSC advises on key decisions, helps allocate resources, and fosters collaboration among parents, teachers, and administrators. Serving on the CSC is a great way to actively contribute to the educational experience at Northfield High School.

We’ll be holding an election for open seats this fall, and we’ll share more details soon. If you’re a parent or guardian interested in serving, stay tuned—more information on how to get involved is coming shortly.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities at Northfield

Families and community members interested in supporting Northfield, please take a moment to provide information by filling out the volunteer interest form.

All volunteers who work with and around students will also need to go through a verification process prior to arrival at the school. Click here to learn more about the volunteer verification we use.

Questions?

Parent Volunteer Opportunities with the Northfield Foundation

The Northfield Foundation is seeking volunteers for Parent Pep Rally for 25-26.

This fan favorite and our first event of the year is on Wednesday, September 24 from 5-8 PM at Stanley Beer Hall. They’d love some extra hands with invites, marketing, décor, and day-of help. Come volunteer and kick off the school year with them!

If you’re interested in helping, email Courtney at courtneyreillylis@gmail.com.

Spirit Wear

Northfield High School is affiliated with two spirit wear vendors. Stock up on school spirit through either The Northfield Foundation Store or BSN Sports. On Fridays, Nighthawks wear navy and gold!
